Social Events Secretary: Lola Barker
Lola is the organiser for all the main social events of the club as well as fund raising events including a Club Draw which starts at the beginning of May and runs until December.
The Social events are normally held most Fridays at the Clubhouse with the final events in December of the ever popular Draw and Carol Service.
Once a year it is hoped a trip can be arranged to London to see a top show, these have always been fully subscribed.
The Social Committee of President Lynn Jenkins, Vice President Hilary Jenkins , Lyn Taylor, Roy Trayler and Lyn Gamblin will do our best to entertain you throughout the year and are always ready to listen to any new ideas.
Please see the News section for information about recent events, and don't forget to visit the Photo Gallery.

Treasure Hunt 15/8/2010 |
|
|
|
Another 1st for the Social Committe - Roy Trayler organised a walking Treasure Hunt which was followed by a cream tea.
The treasure hunt was very leisurely as we walked around the district finding little treasures to put in our plastic bag. (We all felt that we were walking around with poop bags!!!) but we had to find all sorts of things including a stone with a hole in it, an elastic band (thank you postmen!!) We all found most of the treasures but the winners were the ones' with the longest pine needle who were Sue and Doug Mitchell, well done to you both. We all felt they were worthy winners as we also had to follow many clues and it seemed that every corner we turned we found Sue and Doug going in the opposite direction!! How they arrived back to base we will never know!!!
We then all sat down to a cream tea with sandwiches, currant bread and plenty of scones with jam and cream. A very pleasant way the spend a Sunday afternoon, well done Roy with Hilary and myself supplying the tea, hopefully this may become an annual event. Lola (Social Sec) |

Curry evening 6/8/10 |
|
|
|
The Social Committee decided to have a bowls and curry evening followed by a game of bingo. As this was a "first"we went ahead with some trepidation but our worries were unfounded as the evening proved to be a great success.
We had a selection of 4 curries, a Thai, a Rogan Josh, a Tika Marsala and a hot curry all made in the proper Indian/Thai style with spices and cocunut milk etc. My thanks to Gloria for the Thai and the Pinsons for the hot and Tika Marsala and I made the Rogan Josh. Hilary and Lynn made a lovely chicken casserole for those who do not like curry.
This was followed by trifles to cool everyone down and we then had a game of bingo to finish the evening.
Even though it was raining most members had a game of bowls first (we thought it better to have the game before the curry) and the winners were given a bottle of Indian beer. It was agreed that the whole evening was a great success and we will no doubt put this evening on future calendars. Lola (Social Sec.)

SOCIAL EVENING
The theme of the night was "Come dressed as anyone from the Movies"
What a wonderful assortment of costumes there were. It was great fun watching everyone arrive and guessing who they were, some glamorous, some funny and some hilarious. It would be difficult to say who would have won if we had given a prize but a few were outstanding. Robin Hood with his homemade costume of tights, wig, bow and arrow and short skirt. Dorothy with her white socks and red shoes pulling along an ancient dog on wheels. The late arrivals who always like to make an entrance appeared as Shrek with his Princess covered in green make up and then Batman and Robin in full regalia.
Our President was the African Queen fully made up with bright red lipstick who brought along his wife (our Vice President) who was dressed as Carmen Miranda.
Altogether a fun filled evening with a quiz from the movies and a ploughmans followed by lemon meringue pie.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the food and decorations and of course the bar staff who always play an important part in our Social Evenings. Please click here to see the photos.

Social event 19th March 2010 |
|
|
|
Our first Social, which was a pre season event was a great success with 72 members attending (we also had a waiting list)
Before the event a lot of work was put in by our maintenance team, clearing and cleaning the club house and arranging the tables and chairs for which we thank Roger etc. The tables were then decorated with spring in mind (it rained of course!!) with green and yellow as the theme.
Trisha Lewis started the evening with an hours entertainment taking us back to the "fifties" with anecdotes, songs and props of that era (which most of us remembered well)
This was followed by a meal of chilli, jacket potatoes and salad - then trifles, all made by some of our lady members for which we give our thanks.
We also thank our bar staff for keeping the vocal cords well oiled.
The evening was rounded off with a couple of bingo sessions, so thank you everyone for making the evening such a success.
